We are members of Mennonite Church USA who have invested ourselves deeply in the work of the church and believe in the renewing power of the Holy Spirit among us.
We believe that we can be creative in our dreaming about the future.
We are people across generations who want to have a better process for discerning how we do God's reconciling work in the world.
We believe that we can work together to see the church flourish for the glory of God.
Our hope
Because of the depth of unresolved questions about the wisdom of building a large new office building in Elkhart at this time, we are asking Mennonite Church USA to:
- put the planned building project on temporary hold
- not break ground in June 2010 as planned
- initiate a thorough review of the process, including a broad invitation for public comment and suggestion of alternatives.
We believe that in order for this project and our denomination to truly reflect our core convictions and embody our witness, the input of people across age, gender, racial/ethnic background and other dividing lines must be integral parts of our decision-making.
Who we are
Spark Renewal is Nekeisha Alexis-Baker, Lynda and Rod Hollinger-Janzen, Karissa Loewen, Carl Meyer, Tim Nafziger, Hilary Scarsella, Jason Shenk, Sarah Thompson, and others; you can join us!
Some of us have been engaged with this building campaign for years, some only learned of it within the past year. Many of us live in Elkhart. Many of us are past or current staff and/or volunteers with Mennonite church agencies. We are all a part of Mennonite Church USA.
As individuals and more recently as Spark Renewal, we have been in conversation with campaign staff and denominational leaders about this building project.
